Gas prices are killing me.
« on: February 18, 2008, 04:40:23 PM »
due to gas prices I have switched to driving my wifes old.........cavalier. Yes, I went from daily driving my TJ with 5 inches of lift and 35's to a aqua cavalier.

My question is should I sell off the 35's and go back to 31's? I have 4.88 gears and thought that the smaller tires might rev to high. Also, would my 5 inches of lift look too funny with 31's?

Have any of you done this just to be able to daily drive your jeeps?

With the gearing, 31's might be a little too low for a daily driver. I'd look into 33x10.r15's though.  I've thought about doing the same myself.  Keeping my 35's for trail.

I'm running 4.56 with 30s and it is a bit low but pretty good overall.  With 4.88, yours might feel about the same with 32s.

I currently have 31's on with 4" of lift...  This is how it looks like:

I think your would look similar with 31's (one inch is not that noticeable i think).

With the gearing, 31's might be a little too low for a daily driver. I'd look into 33x10.r15's though.

+1; with 4.88, 33" should get you to about stock level, and the 10.5 will be lighter than the 12.5 (not to mention that they will create less drag at highway speed because they are thinner).

Personally, I am thinking about getting 33's and droppin in the 4.88's, which should improve my mileage a little (I am currently getting 15 mpg with 4.10; I am hoping to bring it up to about 17~18 mpg).

Yeah, it's normal. I'm not getting much better than you and I'm running fairly stock with the 3 speed also.

It's around $2.89 a gallon, which is dirt cheap compared to the rest of the world.  For as much as people complain about it, even another $1 a gallon wouldn't change most peoples driving habits.

the same here  :smokes:

20 years ago in Germany they said it sometimes gas is more than 2 German Marks noone
would drive any longer - well our neighbours here would wish that the price would be so
low - today it´s around € 1.40 - which would be 2.75 German Marks what is more than
1 USD per litre - unbelivable  :'(

for me - I´m driving around 35000 miles a year (with the Liberty CRD) - plenty of money

I picked up a 1990 Buick LeSabre for free from a dead relative. 3800 V6 and it average 25 mpg the last tank. I figure i'll drive my Jeep in nice weather, or in the occassional snow. No need to wear the 35's out anyway.
