i want to upgrade my gears to 4.10/4.11, but i have to get a new carrier... whats my best bet for perfomance and price? oh dana 35 with 3.31 right now...... should i go locker or carrier with limited slip or......

Many advise against a locker in a D35 and instead recommend putting an Aussie locker in the front D30.  When I regeared (and swapped in a rear D44) I decided to stick with open diffs and spend a few years learning to drive before installing any lockers.

A Dana 35 with 3.31:1?  A 4banger should have 3.73:1, 4.10/4.11 or a 2004 (auto) 4.56:1.  The highest ratio used was 3.07 but that was in a I-6. Next was 3.54:1's.

If you want to upgrade to 4.10's then get the whole axles from a comparable Jeep (YJ = YJ, TJ = TJ, etc...).  It's not worth it to swap gears to a stock ratio when you can buy a complete axle for less.

Are you sure that's the ratio?  I don't think they even make 3.31:1's.  What year is the Jeep and what transmission, and is it a 2.5L or a 2.4l?

Sorry to hijack your thread.  I found a dana 44 front and a 60 rear with 4.10 gears out of an 86 dodge i think it is for about 300 bucks.  Is this as good a deal as it sounds?

How side is it?  Dodges, especially newer ones are WIDE.

it is off a dodge this guy is parting out i would say maybe late 70's or 80's he said its got disc brakes and limited slips front and rear he thinks

i was told by the guy i bought it from it was that ratio so i took his word for it... i know it is geared high because i cant even put it in 5th gear unless im goin at leats  65.  and its a 4.2 i6 i guess i should do the test to see what the actuall ratio is.....

4.2L it's probably 3.07:1 or 3.55:1.  I'm guessing it's the higher of the two.  You should also be able to check the Diff ID tag to see if it says anything.  Still, going to 4.10/4.11 will make a huge difference.  You'll want axles from a 2.5L Manual.

ten four, thanks! this will be my first swap so will it bolt up or are there gunna be a lot of mods.? and is there any specific year am i shootin for? i am a ring a gear swap virgin so any info is greatly appreciated!
