reason im askin is cause im bringin the jeep back to tx with me.there is a guy here in town that has a mustang dyno.im gonna do some mods then see had the actual gains are.im gonna start off with a tune up and my modded air intake.  :weee:

Dyno'ing is a really good idea to do when you want to optimize your mods.  The only problem is you can't tune the computer any.

i realize this,and its really the biggest down fall of it.
but like i stated im startin out simple with a tune up and air intake.i wanna do the bigger tb/spacer,exhaust(header/muffler),injectors(still researching),efan,and a jet chip stage 2 to finish it off.
im really interested in seeing what these mods do to the little 2.5  :nod:

I'd hate to hi-jack a thread, but I was wondering the other day... I've got the computer from my old engine, which I replaced with another complete 4 cyl powertrain about 5 months ago. Both are 92's so compatability isn't an issue, but is there any way to re-program my old one at all? I feel like I;m beating a dead horse here, but could I possibly send my other one to someone to "crack it open" and re-program it? This would be of course after some more modding ( ignition, injectors, TB spacer, porting...) A couple thread here and on JF have made me think about building up my old engine, I've already got the darn thing so why not do a nice little build up?  :smokes:

If I could get someone to do such a thing, would it even be worthwhile price wise? Or could I get something like the Split Second deal others have used on turbo builds? Or without boost, would it do nothing?
92 YJ. Lifted, 4:88's, 9" rear, 4 wheel disks, some armor, some audio, 35" KM2's, and more

like jeff said there's no tuning out there for the older jeeps.jet doesnteven offer anything for the obd1.
if i "build" mine it be NA just cam/head work

I still think someone out there has to have the capability to re-program the ECU. Not saying I'm going to persue it, but I bet there's someone out there. That's why I mentioned the Split Second controller though, I dunno if it'd worthwhile if I'm not going the turbo route, especially for close to $300. But I'm wondering if it will help the 2.5 benefit from larger injecots and ignition upgrades... Especially if I do a mild build on my old block

JET Performance tried but failed.  The problem being the YJ's computer would reset itself after taking the flash.

What about the MAP adjusters that let you tweak the signal (variable voltage) going to the ECU?  Do they provide any benefit when used with 19# injectors, CAI, and exhaust improvements?

I don't know exactly how much an adjustable MAP sensor will allow you to tune, but I know the Split Second controller has it's own built-in MAP sensor and can fool the computer to allow you to tune your air/fuel ratio. It comes with it's own software, and from what I've read runs close to $300. I was thinking about going this route with my 4 popper, but I've got a good lead on a 6cyl and tranny from the same guy I got my new motor off of 6 months ago. If things don't go through, I just might end up purchasing one sometime in the future. It'll be nice to have if I ever go the turbo route  :hump:

I think if you're going to do it you might as well set up a complete programmable computer to run everything.  There is a guy on the Mailing list who has just that.  He has the harness split into the main one so he can switch back to a stock computer for Emissions.  I forget what unit he was using.  Maybe FourbangerYJ remembers.

Ok, I remembered who it was.  He was your Klune buddy on the list.   :lol:

I asked Dave to join the forums.  IIRC, he's running an aftermarket computer and knowns a thing or two about this stuff.
