axle lube stain
« on: March 09, 2009, 08:47:54 AM »

My rear axle has developed a lube stain at one of the spring perches.  It seems that it has developed a hairline crack or pinhole where the perch was welded.  What would you recommend, try some transmission sealer or do a complete job (remove perch, do required welding, etc.)?

Thanks

Remove and weld.  Otherwise, if it gets worse you probably won't be driving.

Ok, better fix it right before it gets any worse.  Thanks for the advice.

It's probably a good opportunity to have the perches moved to eliminate the need for shims.

Thanks

That's what I did on mine. The ones that were on mine from the last lift had crumbled. I'll never use shims again.
