ok, continuing after my recently stolen radio,

for those who installed new ones.  what do i need for 95 wrangler. my last radio rattled around -- how do i secure it to fit in the jeep nicely

they sell kits that will fit the new radio in then u screw it into where the gap is. i have a 97 and my part taht holds it broke so it bounces, but if u got to wall mart, auto zone or even bestbuy they all sell them, best buy is expensive and wall mart seems to have the best prices on them, its really easy to do u could have it done within an hour.
also if u remember the brand of radio you used to have in there, get one of those because it makes the install easyer because they use the same plug in the back. and also be carful on where the antena jack is because on mine it doesnt reach, so i have no radio, i just use a ipod that plugs into it.

Newer radios have a front facia that clips onto the face of the radio. You may have to get a kit which provides a surround facia that bolts into the frame of the dash radio hole. Also newer radios usually have an outer shell with tangs. These tangs bend up to hold the radio against the bolt in facia. Then the decorative facia clips in.

10-4 on the bolt in crap.  I will solder my connections in, cause that is what is left, wires HANGING out after the bastards fegget stole it.  i got a battery powered solder iron, works well for jeep stuff :) use re-chargables ! :)

There is a deal with a sony on bestbuy online, 109 bucks, may order soon just to have something for when i get the new house/garage in june.

You will need a harness.  Hopefully when they stole it they didn't cut off your harness plug.  The front of the case is usually secured by tabs that lock it against the front surface.  Either cut a slot through the bezel or you can mount it recessed.  Although, having it recessed like the OEM radio would be a bit tougher since there is limited depth you can move it.  You will need to drill a hole in the rear metal bracket jsut above the radio slot.  Then bolt the bracket that comes with the new radio to that and bend it so it's down.  This will line up with the rear stud bolt on the radio and secure it in place.

red and black together are speaker wires in mine that go to soundbar

I just wired the three to a harness(plugs back of radio) and connectd speaker wires to harness and it worked

OK, the new radio should come with a metal bracket that you can put in there to keep it in place (mine is basically supported only on the front with the tabs on the metail rail; this is not ideal, especially for offroading, but I did not have a choice) and I would imagine that the TJ's have the metal tab on the back to hold the stereo in place. 

This is the metal bracket:



Once you have it in the hole, flip the tabs to lock it in place like this:



Because your Jeep will most likely see more bumps than the average car, you will want to make sure to use the rearsupport if you have it (my YJ did not, but check ayway's in case it does; if itdoes not have it, try to support the stereo with something beneath it so that it will not break if it hits bumps):







Also, since you had a Sony radio, the Sony wire color code is like this:



(In case it is not visible, the speaker ire color with the black line is the negative for the speaker)

I basically have mine set up like jfrabat posted. except the front of mine is only supported by the plastic dash piece.... but i used the bolt in the back that makes it a nice secure fitment.. and i like to think that bolt saved my radio from being stolen... come to think of it how did you get it to secure to the metal rail in the front.. that opening was way to big vertically for my radio...

It was kinda sloppy in the opening, BUT the opening wasnt as big before that  fegget thief broke the lower black dash piece.  it fit in there kinda tight before, that why i coulnt get that sliding piece with the tabs in there very well,

knowing what i know now, being older and have taken that part of the dash off, it should be no problem.  Thanks for the pictures guys!

i dont broadcast this, but i am EE, simple non-engineering electrical is not usually a problem (even for a dork engineer).

Why not eliminate the radio or CD player entirely? Unless you need a radio this is what I did and I'll never have to worry about someone ripping me off. Instead of running the wire from the iPod to the amp I used a female/female connector installed in the dash. Helps eliminate extra wires.

Keep in mind a marine radio is only splash proof on the face; if you get water in from behind, it will die like any other radio...  Well, almost; they do have a bit more protection, but not all that much (and there are LOTS of places for water to come into the dash on a Jeep!).

my jeep is not my DD, she is giving me H3LL for looking at a new radio.  i usually drive it to work 2 days of the 5day week.  she has a window reg that is bad, that cost $ to fix, so she thinks she can live with, so can i, but you dont use window everday, you do radio!!!!
