what all did the ford 8.8 axles come in i know thy came in mustangs but did they come in all mustangs found a totaled 95 v6 mustang that i can get the axle cheap!!!! but i dont know if it is a 8.8 or not anyone know off the top of there head?

Hmm, the Mustangs should have a 7.5" not a 8.8", especially with the V6.  Don't waste your time with a 7.5".  Either get the right 8.8" or a 9".  You want one from a Ford Explorer with a 4.0L.  Most should have 4.10:1 gearing and disc brakes.  These are popular swaps with Mustang owners so they can be scarce depending on how popular they are in your area.  Another option is the Ford Ranger XLT.  These have the 8.8" with drums but with 4.56:1 gears.  You can also go with a 9" or a 8.8" from a Lincoln Town Car, Grand marquis or a Crown Vic.  They will have higher gear ratios though.

You want an 8.8 out of an Explorer or Moutaineer.  The track width is only slightly narrower than the jeep, uses the 5 on 4.5 lug pattern.  If you get a 1995 through 2000, you'll get rear disc brakes also.  They are very strong.  If you google "8.8 ford axle jeep", you'll find tons of info.

Stick with the '95+ Exploder and Mountaineer, maybe the Navajo also.

Didn't the mustangs have a 4-lug wheel?

the main reason to get 95+ explorer 8.8 is 31spline disc brakes right width,bolt pattern,gear ratios. dont waste time w others. 8.8 complete bout $300

the later fox's had 5 lug (according to my mustang guy i happen to be a GM junkie) but the 31 spline axles and discs make the decision for me explorer and mountaineer

now to further expore axle choices why the 8.8 instead of a 9in or a dana 44.  On all the other boards im on and frequently look at i have never seen anyone brag about an 8.8 swap they are usually going to the others mentioned unless of course they are playing project overkill with HEAVY dana's or or 14 bolts

The 8.8 is plentiful, affordable, strong, disc brakes, 5x4.5" lugs, etc.  Many advantages over the d44 and 9".

common 8.8 complaints are clearance, stuck w 5x4.5 lug, c clip. solutions= shave a bit off bottom of 8.8 and superior makes alloy shafts that convert to 5x5.5 and eliminate c clip. If you are 1/2

35"tires or smaller. dana 30 w alloys should be fine up front and 5x4.5 is fine. If you feel need to upgrade front axle get the upgraded 8.8shaft and be done. 8.8 is somewhere between dana 60 and 44

strength. jf and pirate have tons of info on 8.8. do search and read up. there are codes on inside of exploder door for what is inside diff. when walking thru junkyard just peek inside door and u know

do a carpart.com search on dana 44 and 8.8. bet you better prices on complete 8.8 than dana 44. I have heard good thing on chrysler 8.25s tho latrly tho.
