There seems to be a lot of them out there, many that were there a few years ago are gone as well.  I'm looking for a bumper for a future purchase.

Here's what I'm looking for; I want a recessed 2" receiver hitch.  I want it to span the full width or close to it.  I want it to sit snug against the rear cross-member so it doesn't get tweaked again.  Tow points are nice but not necessary since I can always use the receiver.  Frame reinforcements are a plus.

Currie (Old school and fairly inexpensive.)
Warn
Hanson
Shrockworks (about teh same price as a Hanson but not as nice.)
AtoZ Fab
Kilby Enterprise (no rack but one could be added later.)
ARB (was disappointed in it's 34" tire limit, especially for what it costs)

Any other places I should be looking at?

Buy a bumper you like then a spindle with a sleeve that you weld in and built your own tire carrier that way you end up with what you want and you can try to keep the weight down. Quite a few of the after market bumpers are to heavy and the tire sits out to far and to high. Or when you use some decent rear corners built a swing out carrier of those with some backup plates on the inside. My rear bumper cost about 150 bucks has D rings and receiver and pretty much does all that you want. You can find those without the D ring mounts for around 100 bucks, full width amd mounted very close to the frame and they take a good beating and weigh less than the 2x4 or 2x6 tubing jobs. A lot of the nice looking bumper carrier jobs are needlessly heavy and make the Jeep drag it's butt

Yeah that one my main concern when I had a tire rack/bumper lined up.  It was going to be heavy and that was a concern.  I don't like the racks that push the tire too far out either.  Especially when the tire is over 33".  Then you add something like a Hi-lift on there and maybe a gas can or two and you have a couple hundred pounds hanging off the rear.

I like Arts idea of adding some corner gaurds and add a swing out off of them for a rack.

That is the route a friend of mine taking, he stretched the rear of his TJ and lost the rear bumper and carrier took a good 150 lbs of the back. He is going to built a carrier out of round tubing that swings of the corner armor

That's like OR Fab's carrier.  I've thought about doing something similar.  Actually that's what I was going to do when I changed my plans.  I was going to get a Besttop swingout that attaches to the body but never did.

I got the ProComp one, it's got d-rings built in, along with a 2" receiver, and fits pretty close to the cross member, and for $150 bucks you cant go wrong.  Eventually Im going to get a guy in the club that does alot of fab work to build me a swing out carrier for it.  I like it, so far its held up pretty well

if the procomp bumper is anything like mine then you just holesaw a gole on the right side get one of these hingepins/ spindles with a sleeve weld the sleeve in, then lock the spindle in the sleeve and built your carrier. I built mine in about 8 hours or so

I have a warn rear bumper.. the paint faded after sitting in the sun for a year (warn agreed to replace it but we linexed it instead). it has a  inch receiver but no d rings (just have to remember the receiver ring thing) as a side not on the receiver, it doesn't go back an infinite-amount and we have had some receivers not fit in because they can't go back far enough(frozen snow in the receiver may have been part of the problem though since i mainly remember that happening in the winter and it was only off by 1/2  hole for the pin). and if you plan on being in a muddy area the mud likes to collect in the opening on the backside so you have to let  a hose ruin in the opening for a while to get it "cleaned out"...

I think whatever bumper I get or make, I'll need to paint it thoroughly.  I'm not too keen on the bumpers with false backs since they do grab crud and can rust from behind.

Still not sure which way I'll go though so keep posting picts.

Thats the only thing I dont like on mine is the open back, you gotta make sure you spray it out really well so it doesnt get stuff stored in there.

The one thing I don't like about that design is the carrier is in front of the bumper so it essentially becomes the bumper.  I'm sure it's a stronger way of mounting the carrier but I like the ones that are ontop of the bumper, leaving the bumper to do it's thing.

I also like the bumpers that reinforce the rear cross-member and have frame tie-ins.  I've been rear ended in the Jeep and because the bumper hung off the rear cross-member it was pulled down which torqued the rear cross-member down as well.  That all had to be replaced.
