These I would like to fix before I leave Panama on Thursday... And of course, except for my trail tools, all the good tools are in Costa Rica, so if I can do them with basic tools, even better!
1. Oil pressure is going ballistic. The indicator on the dash is maxed out. I thought it may have been a clogged oil filter, but did an oil change and nada. Problem continues. I drove the Jeep about 600 miles (back and forth), and had no issues, so there IS oil flowing... I am thinking sending unit died. Opinions? Any way to test it with basic tools (dont have a volt meter, but could probably buy one if need be).
2. Brake pedal spring. When pulling the brake release lever, the brake pedal bounced. It seems like the spring that puts pressure on it for it to stay in the "up" (not engaged) postition either broke or became disconnected, but I could not find it (or where it should go). I used a bungee chord to drive back home, but would like to get this one fixed.
3. Is there a way to check the fuel lines on top of the tank without having to drop the tank? I dont have my Jack here (it's in Costa Rica), but there is some fuel smell coming from the rear of the Jeep. I am guessing it is a hose collar that was not tightened properly, since I had the fuel pump replaced the day before I shipped the Jeep to Panama (the one I had on died on me on the way to the port) by the same mecahnic who forgot to put the wheel lugs on my wheels when he did the angle correction on the pinion (I know; I should not have taken it to him, but I had a million things to do myself as a result of the moving, and he was the only one willing to take the Jeep in on Firday night, and deliver it fixed by first thing Saturday morning so that I could drive it to the port and not miss the ship), and I already found a filler hose collar that was not tightened (at all!), so a loose collar after the fuel pump would not be a shocker... Any other ideas where the smell could be coming from?
4. Fuel tank pressurizing. Now, to be honest, this one has happened since day one for me, but I want to check if it is normal; when I consumeabout half of the tank, and I open the fuel filler cap, the gas tank is actually releasing air pressure. As far as I understand, there is a breather valve under the left fenderwell, but I dont know... How about you other YJ owners; does this happen to you as well?
