what do you mean by a kit - the crankshaft itself?

Can you even do it on a Renix engine?

Maybe not. It's the 258 crank and rods that goes into the 4.0 to make the stroker so
Maybe the bottom end is bad in the motor he has?

No we were going to turn the crank, but I figured with the machine shop prices of $200.00 to do it I could just buy a kit for a brand new one right off the bat.

did you measure it? maybe you don't need to turn it (or grind it to be more specific) - buy some gap measuring stripe gauges (check the FSM for exact specs) - you might only need bearings.

To be honest I am not sure what the mechanic is doing.  He just told me to get prices.

Check your local CL lists. I sold a 4.0l long block with manifolds rather quickly for $175. I didn't do a compression check and many of the acc were removed.

This is for a Renix 4.0L which uses a different cam profile then the HO.

Talked to my mechanic.  said if we are going to turn/grind whatever you call it on the crankshaft that it might cost $200.00.  Said if the kit was cheaper to just do that if it is needed.  he is currently just cleaning up everything on the engine.  It is tore down to nothing right now.

Whoops, read it as cam not crank but there are differences there was well.  Bearing and journal ports are different.  I think you need to use the block's bearings and not the cranks.

i just looked and the crank main bearing part #s are different between 88 and 91-95 4.0L, not sure what the differences are (could be like you said the block is different).
