Best Aftermarket muffler for 2.5 liter?
« on: August 11, 2010, 11:56:15 PM »
Hey I was looking for a good aftermarket muffler for the 2.5. I was just looking for the performance boost and don't care about the sound as long as it isn't deafening. I was thinking a flow50 or even one of the high end cherry bombs....i'm on a BUDGET :fitz: :fitz: :fitz:   Any advice?

I would go with a Magnaflow for $50 or a Borla for $114.  FlowMasters suck for a 4cylinder.  A Cherry bomb even worse then a Flowmaster...  If you like noise then get a Flowmaster or better yet a Cherry Bomb.  With both of these you'll probably see a drop on Torque but you'll probably gain a little HP on the high RPM (over 3600).  I've had a Flowmaster break off because of quality issues.  At what they charge, there is no reason they shouldn't use stainless steel like every other band.  Mine broke at a weld and proceeded to fall off while in traffic.  Ended up cutting it all and replacing the whole setup with a cat-back.

If you don't weld the muffler on you could probably piece meal a complete cat-back.

The new Cherry Bomb Welded (Flowmaster clonish) sounds good. I've been running one since last fall.
Magnaflow would be a good choice also.

I replaced my rusted through blown out 1 year old Borla muffler after they crawfished me on the warranty, with a MagnaFlow several years ago. Very happy with the MagnaFlow, I have the Magna flow cat as well which creates only 1 pound of back pressure.

RT... You are splitting hairs when you mention four cylinder and torque in the same sentence. Buy the Magnaflow and the money you save you can invest in a good Chia Pet.

Here in the Netherlands, we have a dealer who helps you choose the right one.
He just installs one, let you hear it, then installs the next until you tell him it's ok.
Got a stainless steel cherry bomb under my 2.5.
When idling or at "normal" pace; it is pretty quiet.
When pushing the throttle there is a deep dark rumble.
I like the sound alot.
Costs about €80,=
