  When changing the oil, put the plug back in before adding the new oil :'(

never did that but i did take the t-case off the transmission and did not drain the transmission fluid out (i did however drain the t-case which wasn't necessary) - i can't tell you how funny it looks trying to slide the t-case back in with all that oil coming out (it wasn't funny for me but sure for someone watching)

I once drained the transfer case on a Chevy and was interrupted by an unexpected old friend showing up.  Ended up taking him into the house and talking (beer involved).  I  did not mention to my wife the truck fluid draining.  She went out for some snacks and more beer and yes, she took the truck, not noticing the pan underneath.  Fortunately it was not the engine oil and all was well with that truck for years afterward.  She still drives a truck.

4 qts  most went right in the drain pan that was still under it.  Mixing with the Gear oil I had just drained.

Ah, that sucks.

I use a Sure-drain so as long as the tube is off, the pan is good.

don't feel bad I have done that before it sucks and I wasn't so lucky with the pan being under it lol

I've done that when I was in a hurry.
It happens rarely but also always check your old oil filter to make sure the gasket came off with it and isn't still stuck on the block.  If there are two gaskets there it gets real messy real quick when you start it up.  I know this.

At least no one had dropped the oil filter into the pan...  Or the drain plug...   :wall:

I double check that oil filter ring all the time now to make sure it's not stuck there I have seen them go a few weeks without leaking then shift and blow out not fun!!
