New Mods did not work out right
« on: May 22, 2011, 07:44:29 PM »
OK I added in a 4.0 Throttle body with a Spacer(did not match them to the manifold will do that later) put in 19 Lb Injectors.  Also a cold air intake(Actually just a tube that flows better).  Put in a hotter coil and new Plug wire.  Also a new set of plugs, Distributor cap and rotor.  Cat is gone and has been gone, have a thrush Muffler I think.  Kind of lound need to change that out.

Well it revs great not under load, under load above about 2500 RPM it just lays down.

Think I know the answer and its put in the 24 Lb inj or increase fuel pressure.

  Sound about right.

If ti's a TJ then you're really choking off the fuel.

24 lb injectors would be waaaay too much fuel

what p/n injectors did you get? new or used? tested or not?

New.

yep, those are fine - 18.25 lb/hr at 43.5psi

check the fuel pressure, should be 39psi at idle with the vac line disconnected off the FPR .

did you swap the IAC from your t/b to the 4.0L one? (shouldn't matter though at 2500rpm)

what about the TPS (these are the same but just in case the one on the 4.0 has issues).

does it idle fine? what's the rpm at idle?

Idle is fine and I swaped both from my 2.5 throttle body didn't want to take a chance.

I may want to run it this way for a little while, the jeep has not run in a few years  and the fuel has been in it for a while.  Get a few good tanks thru and see what happens.

Well took it out again 1st and 2nd gear is great almost cannot shift from 1st fast enough.  Since It only had 1/2 a tank I went a head and filled it up. That may not have been a good Idea.  A couple of miles down the road I picked up a Misfire.  It comes and goes so think it may be the bad fuel(old fuel).  Will pick up a can of seafoam on the way home tomorrow and see what that does.

Also when I thought it was not doing good forgot that the Speedometer is wrong.  Used my GPS and it gets right up top 65 Mph quick.  Never was much above that before and now its just the same.

if you do the seafoam i strongly recommend you put the old injectors back in and go thru about 3 tanks before getting the new ones back there again. Replace the fuel filter before the last tank prior to re-installing the injectors again.

Was thinking about doing that, man I really hate changing that fuel filter.  Why can't it be easy like my truck.

one thing to look for (it happened to a couple of guys on this forum) is that the injector connectors are making good contact, apparently it happens that they go in and out of commission and the engine ends up running in 3 cylinders - something to look at.
