B&M or Hurst shifters for AX-15 work on AX-5?
« on: May 24, 2011, 07:59:01 AM »
Have been looking around for some clues on this.  Looks like B&M maybe used to make an AX-5 version and I think I saw something by Hurst on Ebay that was advertised for the 4Banger.   Do the models by B&M and Hurst for the AX15 work on the AX5 maybe?

According to some advance adapters instructions, the AX-5 shifter can be adapted to the AX-15 but the bolt holes have to be modified.  So it won't be bolt on but don't know if it can be made to work.

I've thought about adding a Hurst.  Hurst no longer makes a AX-5 shifter.  You will have to modify a AX-15 to work.  It's not hard unless you don't have the tools.  The base plate needs to be disassembled and turned around.  Then two of the holes need to be elongated.

B&M makes a AX5 shifter which is a little cheaper then the Hurst but I like teh Hurst more.

The usual reasons, particularly shorter shift throw.  Don't "have" to have it -- nothing wrong with my shifter now.

that's why I was asking, usually you do the short shift throw so you decrease the shift times, hard to assume that's what our Jeeps are missing

don't get me wrong, if money are not an issue then yeah, it's nice to have, but i think you could spend it on something more useful.

Shorter shifts are nice especially if you spend a lot of time on the road.

I would consider one for a body lift. would help if you had to extension the sifter making it closer to stock throw again.

I thought a bit of time between gears is easier on the synco's?

Only if you're lazy and don't know where your shift points are.
