Try rotating the pump handle so it's coming in from the side.  Or else hold it in and don't let it drop down so the nozzle is resting on the top of the filler tube.  Then means you'll have to hold it so it doesn't jump out though.

Wish I could but here in Oregon I can't touch it unless I'm filling my Bike.  Real pain in the behind.  Try to tell them how to do it and they just look at you like you lost your mind.

Yeah, I've been through Oregon.  I don't get why they even implemented that law.  Jeeps have always been a PITA to fill though.  I would suspect the problem is with the rubber tube or filler neck.  Not much else can go wrong.

I tried the 90* with the pump handle and had great luck filling the tank!
Thanks for the tip Jeffy.

what about a TJ fillneck, would that work better (relocated on the side rather than behind the license plate)

I don't recall mine ever filling up real well. A TJ style filler might work if you can get the hoses routed properly. I have a feeling the tanks are not breathing right so it kicks off the  pump. Holding it at 90* must help it breathe.

Mine clicks off pretty quick without getting more then a gallon in.  This all started happening after I cut out the holes for the taillights.  The weight of the pump handle flexes the body a little and it clicks off the pump almost instantly.  Best thing to do is rotate the pump handle so it's at a 45*.  Then it should fill till it's full.  You'll want to be paying attention to it though.  Listen for the tone of the gas entering the tank to change.  I haven't bothered to fix mine.

With 45* you're talking turn the nozzle 45 degrees from its usual, perpendicular-with-the-concrete position?  Just checking here.

Had to fill-up today and tried rotating the handle part of the nozzle about 45 degrees to the left.  Admittedly wasn't paying attention to the flow sound.  Still didn't cut off.

It won't cut off so you will need to pay attention to the sound.  What rotating it does it prevents the pump from clicking off every second.

I had a bit spill out, but that's fine. I know it's full!  :naughty: You can hear it right before it spills out.

OK, so you're saying 45 degree angle to keep it from stopping every second (happens to me alot), then just keep an ear on the flow and stop when you hear it sound like it's pretty close to the top

Yup.  You should be able to hear it clearly.  Sounds just like when you fill a bottle.  If you don't want to do the 45* thing you can just man the pump and hold it into the filler and not let it drop down.  This makes sure the nozzle isn't hitting against the roof of the filler neck which makes it click off.  I usually do it this way so I'm going to be standing back there anyway.  I don't walk off when pumping gas.

That's what I do too.
