My daughter asked me the other day ( after a year of waving ) if you are supposed to wave to the Jeep or the driver (she has been waving to empty jeeps...)

here in cen cal it location, the father u go out in the country the more u waves u get, the funny part is there seems to be more stock YJs than TJs in my area, maybe because of the poor region, if u can buy a new wrangler u can put some money into it :?

So I'm resurrecting this post only to show that not all girls buy wranglers for the "cuteness" or what ever. Hopefully in the next week I'll be getting my TJ. And yes it is close to stock and no I will not being doing a lot of mods on it just yet as I am a poor college student.

I -will- be waving at the Jeeps I see. I know there is a hierarchy to the wrangler thing but if you are going to snub the TJ and newer wranglers of course they won't learn the wave and know to wave back. I love watching out for wranglers on the street and looking for the wave. It puts a smile on my face. I just hope that when I get my TJ that because it is close to stock and I am a girl that I won't be snubbed by older Wranglers.   haha

i don't think you'll get less waves for being a girl in a jeep.

ive found that grand Cherokees are a waste of time to wave to... same with liberties.... that is unless the drivers hot.  and compass / patriots aren't jeeps.

When I had a CJ you didn't get a wave unless you were a CJ or older model.  Now I wave if it looks like you have ever taken it off road.  The JK with the 6" lift and 24" crome wheels get a  :twofingers: if he waves

my dad has a 4 door... only way we can really live with it is to think of it as being a grandCherokee. as that's what he was going to get but they are too nice to get dirty.... adn that 3.8l v6 in them is definitely a minivan motor.. pretty gutless... id rather have my 4banger and have a reason to be under powered.

Here in the middle of Cow Country (Cen Cal), the Jeep wave is still alive. When I had my 48 Willy's P/UP, I got a lot of waves. Now with my stock 92 YJ I stole from a buddy last week, the waves aren't as often as they were. I guess I gotta spend some money and "buy" the waves again.   :brick:

I think everyone waves in a different language down here, I keep on getting these:  :twofingers:

Haha, no... I try to wave at good (as in dirty) looking YJ's, TJ's, CJ's, and XJ's. Even though I have an XJ, I only wave if they're exceptionally offroad equipped; any yj/tj/cj that looks dirty gets my wave. There's one or two front coil spring YJ's driving around that get a huge smile and a thumbs up any time I see them, and some rear coil XJ's that are always going too fast to wave to, haha.

I feel stupid when I wave though, because my jeep looks retarded for now... it needs new tires and bedlined sides... oh and engine and lots more...

I have to agree with the folks who say it is county/city related.

First, I wave at any cj, yj, tj, and even jk that passes.  If an MJ, XJ, or SJ is appropriately modified, I'll wave at that too.
Here in Jersey, I have experience in 3 counties:
When I lived in Hunterdon, I got 95% wave return from the above vehicles (JK's didn't exist then).
When I lived in Sussex I got 95% return from all but females driving JKs.  There it was about 20%.
Now I live in North/East Somerset on the border of Morris, where I get about 75% return.
For whatever reason, in Long Hill township, and on the road through the great swamp, I get 100% return, even includinjg JKs.
