I really guess the Jeep Wave thing has to do with the city or county in which you live.  I suspect that a bigger city, where people see much less of each other, or mostly could care less about anyone else...  You'll see that type of behavior.

Here in Western Washington, most people seem nice.  As I said before, during spring, summer we get much more waves.  When it's cold and dark, windows all closed up and/or fogged up.  Wave or not, you wont see much of it.

I like the wave, it is traditional, or heritage.

I'm in Hartford county and its a mix.  All modified jeeps wave.  All jeeps with men <30 wave.  30-50 60% wave   women <30 40% wave(other 60% think your hitting on them and get all snotty about it.)  30-50, 75% wave(maybe they're happy a 27 yr old dude is paying attention to them)   men and women >50, im not sure they know where they are, but i had an obviously elderly woman initiate a few weeks ago.  Other subcategorys include--cjs, they all wave.  yjs, 85% wave.  tjs 50-50.  Of all my no wave or confused" do I know you?" looks, 95% are in tjs(or lj's)  Usually all stock with bras, tweety or dealership rear tire covers, or even worse...(think blackout headlights, low profile lowered blasting salsa music from 4 15" urban audio subs in a giant bandpass...uuuughhhHHHHHHHHH!!!!!I even saw one with a big spoiler/wing bondo'd onto his hardtop with 13" rims sticking out like 3 ft.   oh, and ANYONE driving a renegade with those plastic ground effects needs a smack on the head if they wave(exception if the said jeep was given to them for free or really cheap, its better than a k car!!)

The one finger salute is not ment to piss anyone off. I guess it is more of a Pirate4x4 thing, and how everyone puts the little finger guys on thier posts. They are just transfering it to the real world. It is like the wave but more "HARD CORE" (sarcasim).

Ouch!!  That one was kinda 'over the top'...

But back on the subject...   My Jeep is big, well street big.  35" tires and decals all over it.  The Jeep is black but the decals are noticable.  Just recently, and only for a month or two, I put on a South American decal from the ARB/Warn AWA4x4 race in Venezuela.  It's huge!  It takes up my back window, and it's yellow with black racing numbers in a white backround.

Talk about looks and waves from all...

So the wave thing does, sometimes, have to do with the size/look/build of your rig.  No disrespect to stock, or mostly stock vehicles out there, but because there are sooo many out there, unless you've got something to look at, or catch someone attention, you'll not get the wave.

This is a long thread...  that hasn't been mentioned before, has it??

The wave was one of the best parts of picking up a new TJ a few years ago. And now with some of the mods I've made on it I'm seeing a lot more waves being returned...I guess there really is something to that scoring system. Although I do have to say that’s way too much math for me to do on the fly without a calculator.

Hah...just a little "Northern California" bustin' there....

I get the wave quite a bit, but I bet it helps that I'm a guy and the Jeep is blacked out.
