I say you're full of it.  :crap:

I have yet to see a D35 that snapped at the C-clip. Everyone says that's a weak point but every one I saw that snapped was where the splines met the solid surface of the shaft. Had nothing to do with the clips.

This is where they break, almost always caused by lifting a tire when locked and catching traction under throttle.

Don't believe me? Do a search on google images or photobucket for "dana 35" or "d35 shaft" look at where they break. no splines in any of the pics.....

All of the D35c shafts I've seen broken are at that exact same point.  It's the not C-clip but rather the shaft where it tapers down to 27 spline.  And I do agree that it's lifting a tire then giving it the throttle then is the cause.  When the tire comes back down it hooks up and snaps.  My friend happened to be running 33's and an EZ.

I wouldn't lock a c-clip axle even with a lunch box locker.  Had a buddy in the club runnin 33's,  he did really good never broke nothing.  The first run he went on after he put a lock right in he busted an axle!!  Had to strap a small log to the jeep to keep the wheel in while he limped back to the trailer!  I run 35-13.5's with an open rear and have no problems but I won't lock it up till I get my 8.8 built!!

Yeah but the axle shafts are 1.31" rather then 1.13" so the axles aren't as weak.  Then you got the discs which help hold the shafts in place if they do go.  Although by that time you might have an axle tube rotate.

Also 31 spline axles.  So,two things.  1. Do you have enough horse power to rolling resistance to break a 31 spline axle?

2.  Superior makes a c-clip eliminator kit to remidy #1.

For about $1200 you can have dana 60 strength with no major mods and still run factory bolt pattern.

You have more than just shafts to worry about on the D35. With 30" tires - I had pinion problems... ended up wallowing out the races. The ring gear itself is small and the housing itself is weak in the D35 as well.

C clips in and of themselves are not a problem... a weak a$$ axle is ~  c-clip or no.

...and the carrier. This is from our club's last outing. The chick that drives this rig has a very heavy foot. Shafts are fine. No way I'd put a lunchbox in this.
