luckily my jeep is my 3rd vehicle/weekend ride. it's still stock, but gets me through the ohio winters when i need it. my daily driver (hyundai accent) gets 40+mpg. the wife's avalanche sucks to fill up (32 gallon tank).

ya well on top of the raising gas prices Minnesota's polititions decided that we need to pay 8.5 more cents per gallon of gas tax because they aren't using the taxe dollars they get on what they are soposed to be used for..

Has Anyone here figured out a solid way to squeeze a little more love outta their gas tank?  I would love if I could get even 2 mpg more out of a jeep. Also, would I get stock milage with a 2.5" lift, 31's, and performance headers and exhaust?

How about rolling it downhill with the engine shut off?  If you find a reaaaaaally long hill, you could significantly improve the mpg!!!!   :stick: :fish:

Right on man!  Thanks for the tip about the hill, now the fiance cant complain about gas milage!  I think I will also start putting left over vegetable oil in there, I hear that works wonders!

She might complain the first time you try to brake while coasting down a grade.

You'd be better off keeping your speed down.  Under 60mph is best.  If you can keep it under 55mph, it's even better.  If you can't though, try drafting.  You don't need to be bumper to bumper.  For a big rig or van you can be as far back as 10 car lengths and still reap the benefits.  This can make a huge difference. 16-18 can turn into 20-23 if you're not in a hurry.

ROLF... sorry but up here in Manitoba there is a 40% gas tax (or road tax if you will)  that 40% is supposed to be used for fixing are roads but the truth is the gravel roads are nicer to drive down, till they do ''fix'' the road so we then get a whopping 2 years out of it till it is junk again. Can you Americans come up here and show these monkeys how to build roads? I have drivin on your interstates and there soo much nicer then what we have.

I cannot agree more with that Canadian roads suck.  Its a shame you have to pay taxes like that and see returns on the money.  How much is a liter of gas there by the way?

1 gal=3.8L

gas prices are brutal. i'm thinking about buying one of those little scooter things to putz around locally on. i must say, though,..that my latest tank is gonna get me about 21-22 mpg (85% city 15% highway). i'm running 31's (full  size spare and hardtop) with no lift (2" coming soon). i've just learned to accelerate slowly (damn those leadfoots up my a$$..they can just wait an extra 8 seconds to get up to 45 mph). i CAN get up to highway speed (75+ no problem) it just takes a little more time....and the 4banger slows down on the hills a bit (which i allow for). no engine mods yet either (although i did just FINALLY clean and oil my drop-in K&N air filter....and i'm getting my best MPG to date as a result). i've briefly thought (more than once) about trading/selling and getting a Rav4 or CRV (or some similar "4wd LITE") but,..well,..hell...those things only get few mpg better (on a GOOD day) than my Jeep....so why bother (i'd hate myself for it later for sure)?  SO...my 4-clanger and i are gonna stick with 31's and a smallish lift and rest easy that i've gotta vehicle than can get me into (and out of) practically any predicament. plus,...my old Jeep is a direct reflection of my "f@*k-it" attitude toward the general cookie cutter "status quo". if i wanna change a bumper...I DO IT. if i wanna swap suspension parts...I DO IT. if i wanna "screw this or bolt that" onto my ride....I DO IT.  that freedom is worth a few gallons of gas. i'll just drive it a little less if i have too..but i can't part with it. it's in my blood now....like a virus. it is an extension of ME. jeeps are pretty remarkable vehicles. cheers!

Bah, look at the cost of other items in relation to the price of gas over the past 20 years.  Gas is still dirt cheap.

Yesterday was $1.135 a L  and today $1.065 a L (both in CAN), so far i have been lucky as my new to me ranger is pulling better numbers then my jeep does in summer.

Yah, if you are comparing history of just a product to a product. But I don't use any other product which I consume such as gasoline. I can't get away with only consuming 32 oz of gasoline a day, its the same as to how much milk I drink a day.

it is an extension of ME.

...I know the feeling.  With gas prices, though, its one of my most expensive attributes.
Does anybody know if tb spacers and bigger tbs make you loose mpg or gain?  Seems to
me that you would gain by leaning out your engine.  I cruised around with the doors off
this weekend, I'm starting to love this thing in spite of its mpg. :pirate:
