Hey guys my name is Chad I live down her in Wilmington, NC. I've got a 2000 Wrangler with a few things done to it. I'm in college here and my Jeep is my DD so I have been forced to do what I can when I have the time and money.  I think as many of us do I work to support my Jeep, so I am constantly broke.  My signature should pretty well describe what is done to the Jeep.  I have a limited slip rear carrier that I will be putting in soon, and I just added a snorkel. Look forward to using this forum whenever possible and offering any advice I can. Thanks.

Assume you had 4.10's in before?? (if manual)....how was it going to 4.88's with the 35's??  Were you running the 35's before the gear change?  Looking good for a youngster.

I ran the 35's with the 4.10 for about two months before I stepped up to the 4.88's.  The gear change made all the difference in the world. By far the best performance mod I've done. I can pretty well cruise on the highway in fifth gear between 65-75 mph comfortably again.  When I was running the 4.10's fifth was basically useless.  My gas mileage went down quite a bit too, but I don't really drive the Jeep for gas mileage. Hello everyone, just joined a few days ago and figured i would introduce myself and my jeep. My name is Mike and i live in NC. My Jeep is a 95 YJ with 35" Trxus mt's, SOA lift, dana 30 front still and 8.8 rear geared 4.88 and lock rites front and rear, OBA using a sanden compressor from a 97 TJ and a bunch of other stuff i cant remember right off the top of my head, lol. cmgorman94 , i do have a question for you, have you done any mods to your motor because 5th gear is still almost useless to me even with 4.88 gears. Maybe i just have a tired old motor

 the only mods I have are a flowmaster, throttle body spacer, and the snorkel with a k&n drop in. I believe the tj's have a little bit more power from the factory as well.  Can't remember exactly waht the difference is but I've heard that before.  My buddy down here has a '89 YJ with the 2.5L, 39.5 boggers, full widths and 5.38 gears and he has the same problem as you with fifth. Unless he's rolling down hill, drafting a truck and has the wind behind him he's not using fifth.  He definitely has a tired old motor though, so that doesn't help. I have been wheeling my 4 cylinder XJ for a little over a year now. I found this forum mentioned somewhere and decided to check it out.
The XJ has 3 inches of lift and I'm running 31's Trxus MT's.

Hi Guys:
     This the first time I've tried posting on a site...I just "Discovered" 4Bangers the other day, and read a lot of the information posted.  Being new to the Jeep Scene, I have alot of questions.

     I'm a recently retired Army Infantry Command Sergeant Major; 24 Years in the Army and 2 in the Marines...all of it as an Infantryman!   I grew up with motorcycles (have owned 31 over the years); drag raced an NHRA C/Modified Production (and later D/Modified Production) '55 Chevy, and had a 10.02 '67 Camaro for awhile before I got married in '82.  I've had many performance cars on the street; from a '69 Boss 302 (right off the truck in the Spring of '69) to GTOs, Z-28s, Trans-Ams and SS Chevelles.

     I've always wanted a Jeep, and last month I bought a '90 Wrangler YJ.  A lot of miles but in excellent shape...new Bestop Supertop, 2" Body Lift, New Camouflage Seat Covers, American Racing 15x8 Wheels etc.  I went right from buying it directly to Goodyear and put on 31x10.50 15s.  It appears to have been well cared for, and when I got it I also got $1450 of recent receipts for maintenance and tuning etc.  Runs good and drives straight...had the front end alignment checked when I had the tires installed.

     Enough running on...my question is what can I do to make it "Better", specifically in the engine area?  I know it's only a 2.5L 4Cylinder and is not a high horsepower or high torque powerplant, but what can be done to "improve" it?  I was interested in the following areas:  Cold Air Intake; Throttle Body & Spacer; Performance Distributors Firepower Ignition System; Borla Header; Carsound/Magnaflow Hi-Flow Catalytic Converter; and Borla Cat-Back Exhaust System. 

     Problem:  As I look at many and various web-sites and parts distributors, I see that most, if not all parts for 2.5L 4 Cylinder Jeeps are usually '91 - '95, even though they initially say '87-'95.  When I call to order a part, I'm being told "That won't work on your Jeep!"

     I've been quite impressed with the knowledge that I've seen demonstrated on this site...I seek your advice.

welcome all. ya with the 1990 2.5 you have the last year of tbi 91 and up is mpi which increases your options for more power with throttle body spacers larger throttle body's and such. the only main options left are headers, electric fan, cold air intake and of corse the inner guts. 1 last note before i end this to prevent tomuch clutter on this thread. with the 1990 if you look for headers it will say non power steering only, but if i remember correctly someone here got one and only had to notch out the power steering pump a bit to make it work.

hey guys, just found this site from something someone said on anotehr forum.  My name is Bill and i'm from NY, but live in SC, and now moving back to NY in a couple days (no money to be made down here).
I have a `95 YJ 2.5L 5-speed with stock gears and axles (the 8.8 is waiting for me in NY) i got 4" RC Lift and 1.25" shackles with 33x12.5 BFG Muds, herculiner, posi-lok,saw-zall'd fenders, bumpers, home-made rockers, and other assorted crap. here's some pics.

  I bought my 1992 Wrangler S about 10 yrs ago from a friend of a friend.  First car I ever bought with my own money and have never regretted it.  First of all, it is the easiest car I've ever worked on, especially after my '89 four-banger Mustang.  It came with soft top/half doors, 31x10.5 AT's, gears that definitely aren't stock but I haven't mustered the courage to check them yet, and that's pretty much it. 
  Only a few months ago, I started getting interested in fixing it up.  Seeing all the rust on it was starting to scare me.  So it started with pulling off rusted parts, sanding, priming and painting, and has finally led me here.  I've been researching mods all over the net for a couple of weeks now, and just got back from a junkyard with a 4.0L Throttle body from an XJ.  Hope to install it soon and see what happens.
