The strings are 28ga and 34 ga wire. They can be strumed but it sounds bad. It's hard to get the wire tight by hand. The steel ruler is much to thin to try and weld a nut to make the proper tuner pegs. This is more of a show piece than a user.
It's hard to fit stuff in there. I would love to come up with something to resemble the pick ups but fitting stuff in to fill up the space gets tricky and the surface is not even. I have less than a 1/2 inch thickness to work with. I had to cut about a 1/8 off the cam lobe. Trying to add the pick ups would be tough.
It's heavier than you think. When you pick it up most people are surprised. I am not worried about weight. It is what it is.
Better headstock. Can you strum the string or is that wire too thick? I think adding tuner pegs (even fake ones) and having real guitar strings would allow you to have more viewer involvement. I'm sure looking at it people would wants to strum those strings. Maybe run bolts up through the headstock with holes drilled through them. You could then lock them in place with a nut which would allow you to tune the strings a little. You would need a way to get to the other side of the strings on the body side though. Also, I'd maybe consider something to simulate humbuckers pickups. Not that it needs to be heavier.
